Introduction to my KR2S Project
Early in 2008 I decided I needed to buy an aeroplane as I was bored with flying club hacks. Of the many options I considered, building my own was the most exciting. I love to tinker and take great satisfaction from seeing something come to life.
But which aeroplane? I have been buying Kitplanes magazine for many years and my primary needs were a sporty 2 seater at a reasonable price, ie. I needed the greatest 'bang for buck' ratio I can find. The only kit that came close to meeting my needs was the Europa but the cost would be still quite high and the factory was going through some turmoil. A couple of friends (one eyed KR-2 owners) talked me into considering building a KR-2 and after much research the choice became obvious. A well built KR-2 can easily keep up with most aircraft in it's class (including the Europa) and can be built for half the cost.
Because I'm a pilot as well as a builder I didn't want to spend too much time starting from scratch so I started looking for a partially completed project, and soon I found a beauty (thanks Gav). It is a stretched KR-2S (mine has 8 bays behind the aft spar, standard S has 7 and the KR has 6) hence the 'sS' label. It is fitted with a rebuilt 0-200, and came essentially structurally complete. All I need to do is to finish all the systems, do the FWF, all the small fairings and interior fitout, and finally the surface finishing (50% done 80% yet to do).
I will include as many construction photos as I can starting with those the original builder graciously gave me.
I hope this blog helps others reaching for their dreams.

Great start to your KR2 project Paul.
Existing work seems to be pretty good standard. Good to see you are already into the wiring. (bench photo)
